Working with people, not problems
Having gained extensive experience with complex cases within the NHS Psychological team over 6 years, I moved into private practice - Initially working for the Cambridge Centre for CBT in Cambridge. During this time I was the lead practitioner for complex cases, including trauma and EMDR based interventions. I have now expanded my private practice in Anstey Hall, Cambridge. I am a BABCP Accredited Supervisor for students in training, as well as those post qualified, and High Intensity practitioners of senior level both within and out with the NHS, who require Supervision for their Psychotherapists and team leaders. I have worked as a Clinical Supervisor and Lecturer for the University, ensuring that students are practising within the BABCP competencies and ethical guidelines. I provide lectures in specialist areas and provide training in trauma, complex and severe depression, anger issues and the full range of anxiety disorders, including complex OCD, social phobias, health anxiety, low self-esteem and Panic disorder. I have gained extensive experience in working with college and University/PHD students and adolescents, who have alongside a range of other clients, benefited greatly from a combination of CBT and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). EMDR techniques can be combined with CBT to optimise outcomes and facilitate recovery from a wide range of conditions.
I have experience in working with Veterans experiencing PTSD within an RAF base for several years and, having experienced a military background, I have a unique insight into the complexities of issues arising for servicemen and woman and their families.
I receive referrals directly from The Priory and the Macmillan trust due to my expertise in complex grief, trauma, loss and adjustment, as well as Cambridge University and other well established Cambridgeshire businesses for their employees.
Having qualified in 2001 from Cambridge University in Psychotherapy, I trained in Psychodynamic, Solution Focussed and Person-centred therapeutic approaches. I went on to obtain a professional degree in Social Work and during this time, worked privately providing psycho-therapeutic interventions with a range of individuals with difficulties. I have extensive experience in working with young people (7-21years), having completed therapeutic placements in educational and semi-independent living settings, and specialist experience as a Supervisor Social Worker in working with foster children, delivering attachment and behavioural training to foster / adoptive parents across the UK. I continue to provide CBT and EMDR for adoption/foster agencies, with the ability to support both guardians/parents as well as intervention for trauma related experiences for those adopted/fostered.
My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative in therapeutic style and my approach to therapy is centred upon the client’s goals, within the CBT evidence base.
I am flexible with evening and weekend appointments.
